21 Grams is a rap duo from Greenburgh NY. Composed of Monopaly and AJ Rock, these two take song writing to boundaries the genre has yet to explore. Since coming on the scene in 2012 with their debut project "For What it's Worth", they have been establishing their name and carving out their own lane blending 90s inspired lyricism and modern production with alternative themes and song structure, gaining attention from the likes of Sway in the Morning, DJ Cocoa Chanelle, Shawn Prez, DJ Absolut, Hip Hop Mike and many others. Seasoned high energy performers with over 100 shows and winners of numerous showcases throughout the city and across the country, the future has no limits for these up and coming NY emcees.
AJ Rockafeller was Born and raised in Westchester NY, AJ Rockafeller spent the earliest years of his life in Mt.Vernon with his parents. When he was 4 years old his family moved to the suburbs of Greenburgh NY where he would spend his most formative years . At age 5 his father passed away but left an imprint that he would carry for the rest of his life.
The impact of losing his biggest role model made AJ begin to gravitate towards the arts and he fell in love with music. As he got older he began to write his own songs inspired by artist such as Biggie, Nas, Kanye West, Andre 3000, etc.
AJ Rockafeller met Monopaly in high school in 2005 when they were in 10th grade. Brought together by their shared passion for all things music they eventually began to work together. By their senior year started to lay the foundation for what would eventually become their Stadium Status Imprint.
After high school AJ dropped out of college after his first semester anxious to pursue music full time, but success was much more difficult to achieve than he had anticipated. The next few years would prove to be a humbling learning experience for AJ, honing his skills as a lyricist and songwriter, while adjusting to the business side of the industry in efforts to establish a name for himself and get Stadium Status off the ground.
AJ Rockafeller's lyriciscm and expansive collection of flows embody the versatility that makes him one of the stand out up and coming artist of this generation and he is driven to make his name known.
Monopaly grew up in Greenburgh NY during the golden era in hiphop. He was an only child, raised by his grandparents and always had a passion for music.He was inspired to start writing rhymes at the tender age of 9. But it was not till age 12 when he began to take the hobby serious.
Influenced by big names such as Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Notorious BIG and Nas he began to form clever punch lines at a high level early on. He only improved as time passed and by 16 was garnering attention battling local artist and releasing independent mixtapes from home. As a senior in high school he and AJ Rockafeller began woking together to form what would eventually become their Stadium Status Label.
Now after years of hard work honing his craft he is ready to introduce his music to the world and make a new sound & name for himself as one of the best lyricist of his generation.
After years gaining industry experience working with many artist and spending time in various different studios, AJ Rockafeller and Monopaly, following the steps of Black Starr, began crafting their first official project as a joint effort in 2012, "For What it's Worth".
In the 2 years after releasing "For What it's Worth", AJ Rockafeller and Monopaly began honing there performance winning multiple showcases and building connections within the industry. Adopting the name "21 Grams" (a play off of the theory that the soul weighs approximately 21g.) they began working on their debut project officially as group "40 Degree Days”.
